OCALA, Fla. – After the departure of Coach Matt Weston to USL PRO club VSI Tampa Bay FC, the Ocala Stampede is now set to begin the search for a new head coach for the upcoming 2021 PDL campaign. Weston was announced as Tampa Bay’s new coach last week, and will lead the expansion USL PRO side in its inaugural season next year.

Weston helped lead the Stampede to an outstanding 11-3-2 record in the PDL’s Southeast Division, with the club earning the right to host the Southern Conference Championships through holding the best record in the conference. One of the club’s first appointments upon its foundation, Weston helped the club not only achieve success on the field, but also helped the club’s players continue their development as they try to break into the professional ranks.

“The journey has been absolutely incredible and was a very difficult decision to turn around and make,” said Weston. “I’ve used this platform to be able to go to the professional ranks myself and I want to continue to help players who come to Ocala reach the professional level.”

The Stampede are currently accepting resumes for the vacant head coaching position. Resumes can be sent to k.hayes@ocalastampede.

“I’m very happy for Matt and proud of him. He’s worked hard and deserves a shot at the pro level,” said Bill Reed, owner of the Ocala Stampede. “I wish him all the success in the world and I believe he will take his faith and bring VSI Tampa to a whole new level.”
