Stampede College Roundup

Syracuse University

Asante_Tony2012.jpg Anthony Asante, junior forward for Syracuse University, leads the team through 8 games with 12 total points. Prior to this weekend, Asante was on a tear with 4 goals and 2 assists in his last four games. That streak not only helped Syracuse claim the Mayor’s Cup XXXVI title, but put Asante in the NCAA D1 rankings for goals scored (5th) and total points (6th). Tony was also named to the conference’s honor roll on Monday, Sept. 10. Syracuse begins Big East conference play this weekend sitting just outside the Top 25 with a 6-2-0 record.

Hofstra University

Not to be out done, Chris Greibsch, junior forward for Hofstra, has tallied 3 points and 3 assists through 6 games. Coming off a Third team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection last season, Greibsch continues to lead the Pride. Hofstra opened conference play this past weekend, but unfortunately dropped 2-1 to James Madison U – who knocked off defending National Champions and #1 UNC prior to facing off with Hofstra. Griebsch scored the lone goal for the Pride off a 28 yard free kick. Hofstra stays home for a 3 game non-conference stretch before jumping back into their conference play to finish the season.

University of Pittsburgh

Alex HarrisonAlex Harrison is anxious to jump back into the starting line-up to keep his Pittsburgh Panthers undefeated. Harrison was named to the Duquesne Invitational team before picking up a knock that has left him sidelined the last few games. He came on as a sub just yesterday in a 2-1 win over Duquesne and looks to get back in the starting eleven before Big East conference play begins this weekend versus Cincinnati. The Panthers are 5-0-2 on the season.

Longwood University

Ugorji has a goal and an assist in his last two games as Longwood has won 2 of its last 3 matches. Anthony and the Lancers have got their work cut out for them with just 4 conference games left spread out across the rest of their schedule.

Creighton University

In Nebraska, Bryce Ciambella continues to fight to log game time as his Creighton Blue Jays currently sit at #2 in the nation. Creighton has already faced off against some big time opponents this season, tying now #3 Maryland and #9 Akron. The Blue Jays dropped their first game of this season to #14 Old Dominion this past Friday. You can catch Creighton kick against Princeton on ESPNU Tuesday, October 9 at 6:00pm.

Florida International University

Within the state of Florida we catch some action down south at Florida International where Joe Dawkins has started of every match this season, helping FIU to a 5-1-1 record. Dawkins has helped preserve two clean sheets already this year and looks poised for many more as the Golden Panthers head into conference play in a few weeks. For future clean sheets FIU will have to rely on Lex Craggs, who recently made his verbal commitment to join the strong class of 2021.
